The Dehghani Lab


This lab is interested in two main research areas:
1) Production of recombinant proteins in transgenic chicken
A collection of cellular and molecular techniques are exploited to culture and maintain primordial germ cells and to perform genome transgenesis in these cells. Specific molecular methods for purification of recombinant proteins from egg white are also being adopted. The culture conditions and further use of primordial germ cells are all based on their pluripotency and migratory potential. Transgenesis of primordial germ cells using different state of the art genome editing techniques are aimed at specific sites of the genome.


2) Understanding the epigenetic modifications responsible for pluripotency and stemness & epigenetic editing of cancer cells
While the majority of investigations over the last few decades have focused on the role of protein-coding genes, recent studies show that in most cancers external factors such as environment, food, physical activity, age, and etc. are able to change the state of transcription using epigenetic mechanisms including genome methylation, post-translational modifications of histones, and large noncoding RNAs. Our lab is aimed to identify large noncoding RNAs and retrotransposons that may be functional and critical at specific stages of cancer. Another active area of research in this lab is therapeutic epigenetic editing in cancer cells.

A postdoctoral position is available to work in the areas of cancer epigenetics and lncRNA mediated chromatin remodeling. The approaches we use include cell line development, molecular biology, biochemistry and epigenome editing using CRISPR technology. A solid background and extensive experience in molecular cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology and bioinformatics is essential. I will be seeking for a candidate who is independent, self-motivated and team-oriented. Successful applicants are also encouraged to write papers, mentor graduate students, and write grant proposals. The research environment is The Research Institute of Biotechnology, Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, Mashhad, Iran. The initial contract will be a one year period which is extendable to two years. The first contract will be signed after a short evaluation period.
