Knowledge approach to restructuring the bibliographic record:
A new structure for the bibliographic record is suggested based on the definition of knowledge. Therefore, the new structure should be able to:
1) assemble, categorize, relate and represent all the available entities in a bibliographic family based on a comprehensible pattern,
2) represent a clear picture of the bibliographic family, i.e., the totality of a work (its different editions and manifestations) available in/through a catalog
3) illustrate the relationships between and/or among bibliographic entities,
4) identify and represent the place of each work in the bibliographic hierarchy,
5) provide the ability for the user to relate his/her previous knowledge to what is represented, and finally
6) develop the user's knowledge of the bibliographic universe.
