Problems with the current information retrieval systems:

With the overwhelming amount of data and information stored in large catalogs and databases, both end-users and librarians are facing serious problems regarding retrieval, such as:

1) poor results,     2) too many or zero hits,

3) false drops,      4) irrelevant documents,

5) poor organization and display of information,

6) no clear picture of the relationships between and/or among bibliographic entities

7) no easy access to a specific entity in the bibliographic hierarchy.

All such problems would not help catalog users develop their knowledge of the bibliographic universe.
