Problems with the bibliographic record:
While the bibliographic record is the main vehicle for storage and retrieval, it has a flat structure representing only one item.
The flat structure would not provide catalog users with the ability to discover if a work has been published/represented in different editions and manifestations and if there is any relationships among different works in a catalog or on the Internet
The present structure would not help the catalog user develop his/her knowledge of the relationships between and among authors and works in the bibliographic universe.
